BUCHANAN MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s boys and Quincy’s girls have advanced to the MHSAA Cross Country Finals next Saturday at Michigan International Speedway.
The Cardinals won their second consecutive Division Two Regional title at Buchanan on Saturday. The Cardinals scored 40 points by placing five of their runners among the first 17 finishers. They easily out-ran the second place team from Hamilton, which scored 80 points. Shuaib Aljabaly won his second Regional cross-country title, while Zack Murphy took the bronze medal, Jordan Parkinson finished in 8th place, and Ben Fagen medaled in 11th place.
Coldwater’s Lady Cards finished a surprising 7th among the 14 schools, with Kathy Potter and Elka Machan earning medals in 12th and 15th places and qualifying themselves, along with the Coldwater boys, to the State Finals.
Quincy’s girls qualified for the MHSAA Division 3 Cross Country Finals on Saturday thanks to a third place finish at the Regionals in Jackson which were held in Sharp Park. Gabby Porter won a regional championship with a time of 20:26.6. Four other Orioles finished in the top 25. Haley Bean was 17th, Harmony Harpster was 18th, Meri Michael was 22nd and Makenzie Blatter was 24th. Olivet won the regional title with 35 points followed by Jackson Lumen Christi with 58 points and Quincy with 82 points.
Union City was 11th while Bronson did not have enough runners for a team. Bronson’s Xochitl Garcia qualified for the state finals as an individual with a third place finish. Marika Endo of Union City was 37th.
Bronson finished fifth while Quincy was sixth and Union City was 13th at the Division Three Boys Cross Country Regionals. Hanover-Horton won the team title thanks to five runners finishing in the top nine. Olivet was second followed by Onsted. Quincy’s Nathan Nohr was seventh and Bronson’s Colin Ransbottom was 15th as they earned trips to the MHSAA State Finals as individuals.
