COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A third hearing before the Coldwater Historic District Commission about the possible demolition of the former Gillespie Funeral Home has not been scheduled yet.
An administrative law judge for the Michigan State Housing Authority has ordered the Commission to reconsider a decision they made in April because the board was one member short when a vote on a motion to demolish the empty building ended in a 3-3 tie.
The judge felt the action was invalid because the Commission was short by one board member.
The current property holder Southern Michigan Bank and Trust is hoping to put in a park at the location.
Director of Community Services and Assistant City Manager Keith Baker told the Downtown Development Authority Wednesday that an alternative plan has not come forward.
Action by the Historic Commission may not be final. It could go back to the state or the matter could wind up in Branch County Circuit Court.
