COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Planning Commission gave their approval Thursday night to a site plan for a Coldwater Board of Public Utilities expansion project which would help accommodate the new Clemens processing facility.
The plan was tabled earlier this month when concerns were raised about possible odors coming from a pair of uncovered 500,000 gallon wastewater equalization tanks that would be part of the project.
CBPU Director Paul Beckhusen said the tanks will not be for storage but they will allow the plant to run at a steady pace.
He also tried to address odor concerns by saying a cover on the tanks was not typical and would increase costs.
Coldwater City Manager Jeff Budd told the Coldwater Zone of Board Appeals on Wednesday odor will not be a problem but odor equipment would not be added immediately. The Z.B.A. approved an 18 foot front yard setback variance request for the construction of a wastewater equalization tank to within 32 feet of the B.P.U.’s east property line.
The expansion would increase capacity at the wastewater treatment plant and is scheduled to go to bid next month.
