Rex Lee Simmerman, 83, of Coldwater, passed away at the Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo Saturday, October 1, 2022.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday October 7, 2022 at the Coldwater United Methodist Church.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m., also at the church.
The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
Rex was born October 18, 1938 in Hartford City, Indiana to Don and Fae (Thomas) Simmerman. He grew up there and graduated from Hartford City High School in 1956. He then moved on to Tri-State University where he graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
October 22, 1961 he married Nora Ruth “Ann” Crites and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage together with their four children, fifteen grandchild and one great grandchild on the way.
Rex worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Climax Specialty Metals. Away from work, he loved spending time being active. He enjoyed playing pickleball in Florida, bike riding, sailing, kayaking, and helping with the 4H Challenge Club, doing extreme sports such as caving and rock climbing.
Rex was also very involved in the community with Rotary, Masons, Shriners, and serving on the School Board for Coldwater Public Schools. He attended the United Methodist Church in Coldwater.
Rex is survived by his wife Ann, and their children Michele (Kevin) McLaughlin of Chelsea, Craig (Kim) Simmerman of Cedar City, Utah, Brian (Denise) Simmerman of Swartz Creek, and David Simmerman of Savannah Georgia; grandchildren: Keegan and Shane McLaughlin, Laura (Tyler) Klamm, Carolyne (Riley) Parkison, Alison, Madeline, Kaleb, William, Liberty, and Thomas Simmerman, Arlo and Zoe Simmerman, Adam, Kyle, and Kelsey Simmerman; siblings, Susie (Dick) Crouse, and Sarah (Bill) Crabtree.
Preceding Rex in death are his parents and three grandchildren.
