COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After recent leadership changes and struggles to find the necessary support to keep operations running, the Family Promise Board has voted to transfer the only homeless shelter program in Coldwater to another non-profit agency with a similar mission.
The new agency overseeing Family Promise is Coldwater Housing Matters. They were among three local agencies that showed an interest in acquiring the Family Promise organization and assets.
Coldwater Housing Matters has over 60 years of experience managing public housing.
Coldwater Housing Matters is a 501c3 Non-Profit organization created by the Coldwater Housing Commission for the purpose of assisting, supporting, and connecting persons in need with housing resources.
Family Promise Advisory Board Chairperson Jessica Jones says, “We are excited to make this transition as it will help continue the long legacy of our mission to care for families in need of shelter in our community. With the transfer it will allow those currently being housed to remain at Family Promise, and for an agency with needed credentials to help continue our mission that churches, businesses, and individuals have long supported and cared about.”
Branch County Community Foundation Executive Director Erica Heminger says Coldwater Housing Matter’s mission is to support and promote families, neighborhoods, and economic self-sufficiency, as well as to partner with local agencies to expand services to persons with low to moderate incomes, including seniors with disabilities.
Coldwater Housing Matters also aspires to acquire or develop properties for mixed income persons providing opportunity for self-sufficiency.
With the transition, Coldwater Housing Matters is also looking to add volunteers to its restructured Family Promise Advisory Board.
