BLACKMON TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Jackson Northwest picked up their first football win over Coldwater since 1982 as they outlasted the Cardinals 29-22 at Mountie Stadium.
The game was scoreless after the first quarter and tied 7-7 at halftime, thanks in part to a blocked Mountie punt that was recovered in the end zone by Coldwater’s Kevin Hall. Coldwater took the lead briefly early in the third quarter on a 31-yard TD pass from Zach Coffing to Hunter Munson. Northwest would tie the game 14-14 after three and outscored the Cardinals 15-8 in the final stanza; the only Coldwater score came on a 1-yard Jackson Reilly run and a 2-point conversion pass from Coffing to Chase Lieby.
Jack Ruden had 9 carries for 60 yards, Alex Robey added 11 carries for 43 yards, and Jackson Reilly finished with 6 carries for 24 yards and a score. Zach Coffing was 7-of-15 passing for 77 yards and a touchdown; Hunter Munson had 4 catches for 57 yards and a score. Donte Work led the defense with 7 tackles.
The Cardinals dropped to 1-6 overall, 1-4 in the Interstate 8, and will visit Harper Creek next Friday.
