FREMONT, IN (WTVB) – A man from Montpelier, Ohio was injured Saturday afternoon in Steuben County when his pickup truck crashed into a tree and burst into flames.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department says 22-year-old Tyler Worstell was laying outside the vehicle with possible internal and head injuries when deputies arrived in the area of County Roads 200 North and 950 East just before 1:00 p.m.
Worstell was flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne by the Samaritan Helicopter. Deputies say Worstell was on 200 North when he lost control of his pickup on a hillcrest which caused him to drive off the road and strike a large tree.
It appeared Worstell was able to get out of the vehicle before it caught on fire. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash and Worstell was wearing his seatbelt.
Assisting at the scene was Fremont Fire/Rescue, Samaritan Helicopter, Steuben County EMS, and Steuben County Communications.
