COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Monroe man was formally charged with three counts on Thursday in Branch County District Court following alleged incidents involving a family member and a Coldwater Police officer on September 14.
39-year-old Alan James Golematis is facing Branch County charges of aggravated stalking, third degree fleeing from a police officer and malicious use of telecommunication services.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled for October 27 with a preliminary exam in District Court set for November 2.
Golematis is being held in Calhoun County where he is facing seven charges for allegedly shooting at police officers during a multi county chase.
Calhoun County on line court records show Golematis is facing charges of assault intent to murder, discharging a weapon from a vehicle, third degree fleeing in a vehicle from a police officer and carrying a concealed weapon. He is also facing three felony firearm counts.
On line records also indicate Golematis has been referred in Calhoun County for a competency evaluation. His next court date in Calhoun County is scheduled for December 28.
Golematis was taken into custody near Eaton Rapids after a chase that went through Calhoun, Jackson, Ingham and Eaton Counties. He was allegedly involved in a Branch County chase earlier in the day.
According to Branch County court documents, the series of events apparently started following a dispute among family members over the possession of guns and alleged phone and text threats the defendant made.
Court documents state Golematis became angry because he thought he was the rightful owner of the weapons but he can not possess weapons because of three convictions between 2003 and 2005 for misdemeanor resisting a police officer as well as for felony charges of unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle and breaking and entering.
