COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In boys tennis, Coldwater qualified for the State Finals for the fourth consecutive year Thursday with a second place finish at the regionals held at Three Rivers and Vicksburg High Schools.

Coach Jeremy Gump was named Regional Coach of the Year.
Three Cardinals, Kameron Miller, Shane O’Grady and Austin Bailey all advanced to the championship match in their singles flights. Porter Skidmore advanced to the semifinals but had to retire due to injury.
Mitchell Duda and Christian Pine got to the quarterfinals at number one doubles. The other three doubles teams, Sam Morrison and Noah Waterbury; Kyle Krzyzanski and Alec Keplinger along with Blake Yates and Jake Matevia all advanced to the semifinals.
The Cardinals will spend the next week preparing for next Friday’s State Finals at Stowe Stadium at Kalamazoo College and the courts at Western Michigan University.
Meanwhile, in the Division 4 regionals played at South Bend (Leeper Park) on Thursday, Bronson’s #1 doubles team of Brenden Bell and Lucas Disbro from Bronson finished as runners-up in their flight. The team scores for the South Bend regional were not yet posted as of late Thursday night.

Coldwater tied its school record for wins Thursday with a 4-1 victory at Edwardsburg. The win improved their record to 16-1-1 on the season. Brandon Cortes scored two goals, including one just 30 seconds into the game. Mohamed Nagi and Jonathon Brownell had the other goals. Anas Asker and Shuaib Aljabaly each had two assists.
Balal Nasser made 4 saves, with the only goal given up on a penalty kick by Edwardsburg. That was the first goal the Cardinals have conceded since August 30, breaking their streak of 10 consecutive shutouts.
The Cardinals, ranked 7th in the latest Michigan Soccer Coaches Association Division 2 Poll, will play at 13th ranked Mattawan Saturday.
Coldwater and Edwardsburg played to a 1-1 tie in the J.V. match. Dominick Kelly scored the only goal for Coldwater. Defensively, Coldwater allowed only one shot on goal. The Coldwater JV team is now 10-2-2 on the season.

Bronson had their Block Out Cancer night. They recognized Bridget Mayer, Marcia Albright and Scott German, and raised about $4,000 on the evening. The gym was packed and 640 shirts were sold. Sportsarama donated the uniforms for the teams; Mayesh Wholesale Flowers and Great Lakes Glads donated the flowers; Smitty’s Pizza and Viking Express donated the pizza’s for their serve for pizza contest.

The Coldwater 8th grade A team lost to Jackson Northwest 25-21 14-25 12-15. Leading the team on the serving line was Laynee Paarlberg 7 points 3 aces; Mia Rzepka 7 points 2 aces; Kaia Donay 4 points; Victoria Gonzalez 2 points. Amber Sunderland had 6 digs in the back row. Abby Herman with 3 kills. Kaia Donay and Jenna Julien each with one block.
The Coldwater 8th Grade B volleyball team also lost to Northwest 20-25, 26-24, 12-15. Leading the team on the service line was Joselyn Salto with 11 points and Carly Gebbink with 10 points, 3 aces, and 4 kills. Alyssa Fisher and Annabelle Kling each had 2 assists. Teighlor Beatty, Molly Lewis, Julieanah Wild, and Marissa Cox each had one dig. The Cardinals will travel to Charlotte Tuesday for their next match.
The Coldwater 7th grade A volleyball team defeated Jackson Northwest 25-19 25-18 15-12 as they improved to 11-1.
