BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – In boys tennis, Coldwater won the Interstate 8 Conference Championship Monday as they edged Parma Western 58-56.
Individual conference champions were Shane O’Grady at second singles, Austin Butler at third singles and Porter Skidmore at fourth singles. Finishing second in their flights were Kameron Miller at number one single along with the doubles teams of Mitchell Duda and Christian Pine, Sam Morrison and Noah Waterberry along with Blake Yates and Jake Matevia.
Bronson finished third at the BCS meet. Berrien Springs finished first with 48 points followed by Niles Brandywine with 30 points and Bronson with 29. Earning all conference honorable mentions with second place finishes were Brandon Hyska at number three singles along with the doubles teams of Brenden Bell and Lucas Disbro and Ryan Wisman and Billy Balowski.
In girls golf, Coldwater finished third at the Interstate 8 girls golf Conference Championship at the Bedford Valley Golf Course in Battle Creek Monday. Hastings finished first with a score of 372 followed by Jackson Lumen Christi with a 377 and Coldwater with a score of 395. Marshall came in 4th with a 397.
Coldwater was led by Gabriel Boston who shot a 94 which was good enough for 7th place. Claire Sheppard carded a 97, Jayla Goodwin shot a 101, Hunter Jenkot had a 103, Molly Smith shot 112, and Micki Slack rounded out Coldwater’s scoring with a 117.
Jenkot, Goodwin and Sheppard were named Honorable Mention All-Conference for the 2016 season.
In boys soccer, Quincy won their first match of the season as they defeated Jonesville 5-4 in a shootout. The match was tied 4-4 after regulation and both overtime periods. Quincy outscored Jonesville 5-3 in the shootout. Alex Aseltine , Luke Hollenbaugh, Graham Sussex, and Alex Pickell scored in regulation. Luke Swift, Dalton Connin, Drew Deaton, Brody Glei and Aseltine scored in the shootout with Aseltine scoring the winning goal. Quincy’s Nathan McKnight made four saves in the shootout
