COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – -The City of Coldwater Planning Commission tabled a site plan for a $3.3 million Coldwater B.P.U. expansion project on Monday when concerns were raised about a pair of 500,000 gallon wastewater tanks.
The expansion would increase capacity at the wastewater treatment plant and is scheduled to go to bid next month. Assistant City Manager Keith Baker said the tanks would store wastewater before it’s treated.
But commission members had concerns there would be an odor since the tanks would not have a lid on them. No CBPU representatives attended the meeting and Baker suggested it be tabled after he had to field a number of questions.
Meanwhile, the commission approved a site plan for the expansion of the Maple Lawn Medical Care facility but not before Administrator Jane Sabaitis had to explain to Commission Chair Aloha Miller why additional parking spaces were needed. Sabaitis said the additional spaces were needed during shift changes and for special occasions such as holidays when residents have a lot of visitors.
The Planning Commission also recommended to the City Council that the 63 day public review process for the updating of the city’s Master Plan get underway. Baker said final adoption is expected to be scheduled for sometime in January 2017.
