FAWN RIVER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash which took place Monday morning near Sturgis.

The driver of the vehicle was identified by the Sheriff’s Department as 16 year old Sturgis resident.
They say the vehicle was traveling west on Fawn River Road west of Big Hill Road when it struck the 13-year-old pedestrian from Fawn River Township.
The pedestrian was transported to Sturgis Hospital and then flown by helicopter to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.
The driver and passenger of the vehicle were not injured.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Sturgis Police Department, the Michigan State Police, Life Care Ambulance, the Tri-Township Fire Department and Sturgis Towing.
