COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater varsity soccer team clinched at least a share of the Interstate 8 Conference championship with a 7-0 victory at home over Harper Creek Thursday on Senior Night. The win improved the Cardinals conference record to 6-0, with their final league game next Tuesday at Hastings.
Mana Ahmed scored 5 goals in the victory, with single goals from Jacob Knaack and Yones Mussa. Anthony Nunnally, Faheem Abdullah, Anas Asker, Mohamed Salem, and Cameron Barnes each had an assist as Coldwater improved their overall record to 14-1-1. It was also their ninth straight shutout, as they did not allow a goal in the month of September.
Balal Nasser made one save in goal, as Coldwater outshot Harper Creek 19-1.
The Coldwater JV team beat Fennville 5-0.
—-GIRLS VOLLEYBALL—-Coldwater played in a tri-meet Thursday night at Brooklyn Columbia Central. The Cardinals started off playing Jackson and beat them 2-0 (25-17, 25-10). Next they played a strong Columbia Central team and won 2-1 (26-24, 23-25, 25-22).
Tyler Scheid had 4 block kills at the net and also had 8 kills and 4 aces. Drue Mullin led the team in kills with 13 and had 12 digs. Sam Rodesiler had a team high of 16 digs and 6 kills, followed closely by Jasmine Wellet who had 14 and Izzy Foley with 12. Jamie Wellet led in assists with 34 and had 11 kills.
The Cardinals are now 21-4-5 and play again Saturday at the Harper Creek Tournament.
The Coldwater J.V. team got a pair of victories in their matches at Brooklyn Columbia Central. They defeated Jackson 25-17, 25-15 and Brooklyn Columbia Central 26-24, 27-25. Anna Tappenden had 20 assists, 15 kills and 15 digs, Jordan Clemens had nine kills and 11 digs while Mya Tom had 13 digs. With the two wins, Coldwater improved 22-6-3
Quincy traveled to Hanover for a tri-meet on Thursday night. They beat Hanover 2-0 (28-26, 25-17) and Leslie 2-0 (25-20, 25-22).
