JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – It was another banner day for the Coldwater boys cross country team Saturday at the Jackson Invitational as they had five runners finish in the top 21 in capturing the Division 2 meet title. Coldwater had 60 points followed by East Grand Rapids with 67 and Hanover-Horton with 78.
On a perfect weather day to run, many distance runners achieved season-best times in Ella Sharp Park, including those from Coldwater as the Cardinals won their third invitational championship of the season. Coldwater’s Shuaib Aljabaly won in a time of 15:46.7. Zack Murphy was sixth, Ben Fagen was 15th, Jordan Parkinson was 17th and Jacob Fair was 21st.
The Coldwater girls finished 11th in the meet, led by Kathy Potter’s 39th place finish, while running her best time of the season.
Also in cross country, the Pittsford Invitational divided their meet into four classes.
For the senior boys, Bronson was second while Quincy was 7th and Union City was 10th. Bronson’s Blake Bucklin was 8th while Luis DePaz was 9th. Union City’s Grant Gay was 12th and Quincy’s Bryce Bassage was 19th.
Quincy finished second in the senior girls meet led by Gabby Porter who was second. Union City was 9th. The Chargers top finisher was Mirjam Barelkowski who was 24th.
In the junior boys race, Bronson was third, Union City was ninth and Quincy was 10th. Nathan Nohr of Quincy was third, Colin Ransbottom of Bronson was sixth and Chase Hurley of Union City was 14th.
In the junior girls race, Quincy was 8th, Bronson was 10th and Union City was 14th. Meri Michael of Quincy was 8th, Meghan Vaughn of Bronson was 20th and Angelica Iobe of Union City was 30th.
In the sophomore boys race, Quincy was fourth, Bronson was 11th and Union City was 20th. Brock Martin of Quincy finished 10th, Mario Sanchez of Bronson was 12th and Brian Moore of Union City was 45th.
In the sophomore girls race, Bronson was 10th, Quincy 13th and Union City was 15th. Xochita Garcia of Bronson was third, Alyssa Smith of Quincy was 13th while Marionna Bigelow of Union City was 20th.
In the freshman boys race, Quincy finished 11th while Union City was 13th. Quincy’s Ian Trail was fourth while Owen Needham of Union City was 31st.
In the freshman girls race, Quincy was third while Union City was seventh. Quincy’s McKenzie Blatter was fifth while Madelyn Allman was seventh. Marika Endo was 10th.
—GIRLS VOLLEYBALL—
Quincy won the Stockbridge Tournament on Saturday. They finished first in their pool and then defeated Manchester in the semifinals 2-0 (25-20, 25-19). The Orioles then defeated Hillsdale in the finals 2-0 (27-25, 25-21)

Bronson won the Holt Invitational Tournament on Saturday as they defeated Marshall in the finals 2-1 (20-25, 25-21, 15-4)
Bronson remains second in Class C in this weeks Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Association Poll. The Vikings are 24-6-4. St. Mary’s Catholic Central is ranked first in Class C. Harper Creek is ranked 7th in Class B, Kalamazoo Christian is third and Schoolcraft is ranked 8th in Class C while Mendon is second, Pittsford is fifth and North Adams-Jerome is seventh in Class D.
