COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council will be asked on Monday night to give final approval to the purchase of a small piece land by the owners for the Laurels of Coldwater.
Coldwater Community Services Director and Assistant City Manager Keith Baker says the city has been approached by Oak Health Investors to buy the property on Orleans Boulevard that used to be the location for a Super 8 Motel sign.
It was bought by the city through the state’s property tax foreclosure program. Taxes have not been paid on the property for three years.
Baker says the Laurels have been maintaining the property over the last couple of years and have talked about buying it.
An offer of over $1,500 has been made which Baker says will cover the city’s costs and return the property to private ownership.
Under terms of the City Charter, the Council tabled the purchase offer for 30 days during their August 22nd meeting.
In other business, the Council is scheduled to award bids for improvements at Waterworks Park. The work will cover berm reconstruction and shoreline seeding.
A $60,000 grant from the Great Lakes Commission will pay for most of the work. The project is designed to fix the erosion problem and restore native planting and grass along the river bank.
The Skating Pond would also be retained. Public Works Project Coordinator Sarah Fronczak says in her memo to the Council the berm that holds back the pond has eroded from 15 feet to three feet in width. She adds the channel bank of the Sauk River would be stabilized by the establishment of a vegetative buffer along the shore.
