COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater boys varsity soccer team stayed undefeated in Interstate 8 Conference play Thursday night with a 4-0 win at home over Jackson Northwest.
Mohamed Nagi had 2 goals, while Jonathon Brownell and Juan Hernandez each had one as the Cardinals improved to 4-0 in the conference and 11-1-1 overall. Mana Ahmed had 3 assists, while Brandon Cortes had the other.
The win was the 6th straight shutout for Coldwater. Balal Nasser had 6 saves in goal for his 9th shutout of the season. The Cardinals outshot Northwest 16-6. The varsity’s next action is Monday at home against Battle Creek Lakeview.
The Coldwater JV team will host their annual invitational tournament Saturday.
Coldwater drew a bye in the District 2 Boys Soccer District tournament at Charlotte. They will play either Marshall or Eaton Rapids in the district semi-finals on October 20th. The district finals will be on October 22nd.

Jake Matevia filled in for Porter Skidmore and won his first varsity singles match at #4 singles. Austin Butler remains undefeated. He has only lost one set all season and hasn’t had any other set where an opponent has won more than 3 games.

The Coldwater 8th grade A team defeated Pennfield 2-0 (25-12 25-23). Madison Beckhusen had 10 points one ace, 3 assists and 2 kills; Abby Herman had 3 kills with 2 blocks; Jenna Julien one kill and one dig; Alyssa Bach and Kaia Donay each added 7 points. Laynee Paarrlberg 4 points, 2 assists and 2 digs. Amber Sunderland had 3 digs.
The Coldwater 8th grade B volleyball team lost to Pennfield 2-0 (20-25, 23-25). Leading the team on the service line was Lissbet Ramos with 11 points 6 aces, in addition to 2 kills and 1 dig. Allysa Stevens had 8 points 3 aces and Jadyn Richmond added 8 points 2 aces and 1 assist. Carly Gebbink had 2 kills and 1 block. Lacy Janusz and Julieanah Wild had two digs each.
The Cardinals will travel to Marshall on Tuesday for their next match.
