BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater boys cross country team finished first while the girls were fifth Tuesday in the first Interstate 8 Jamboree of the season hosted by Harper Creek.
In the boys meet, Coldwater had five of the top 14 finishers led by Shuaib Aljabaly who finished first in a new course record time of 16:26. Zack Murphy was second, Jordan Parkinson was fourth, Ben Fagen was 13th and Jacob Fair was 14th. The Cardinals finished first with 34 points followed by Harper Creek with 57 and Parma Western with 68.
The top finisher for Coldwater in the girls meet was Kathy Potter who was third in a time of 21:19. Elka Machan was 13th. Jackson Lumen Christi won the girls meet with 48 points followed by Marshall with 71 points and Parma Western with 77.

The Coldwater 8th grade A volleyball team beat Parma Western 2-0 (25-23 25-23). Leading the team on the serving line was Veronica Gonzalez 6 points one ace, Victoria Gonzalez 5 points one ace, AnnaKate Dwyer 4 points one ace and Madison Beckhusen 2 points. Laynee Paarlberg had a strong game with 5 points 2 aces, 4 assists, one kill and one dig. Abby Herman was strong at the net with 4 kills and one block; Kaia Donay 3 kills. The team will host Pennfield on Thursday.
The Coldwater 8th grade B volleyball team lost 2-1 to Parma Western (25-13, 22-25, 16-14) Leading the team on the service line was Julieanah Wild with 9 points 2 aces and Annabelle Kling with 7 points. Lissbet Ramos and Alyssa Fisher each added 4 points. The Cardinals will next host Pennfield Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Coldwater 7th grade A team is now 8-1 after they defeated Jackson Parma Western 25-11 25-19 9-15

—GIRLS GOLF—
In the last Interstate 8 Jamboree of the season prior to the Conference Championship, Coldwater finished third behind Lumen Christi and Hastings on Tuesday. The Jamboree was held at the Marshall Country Club due to a conflict at Binder Park which necessitated the move to Marshall. Lumen won the event with a 182 followed by Hastings at 192 and Coldwater at 195. Marshall took 4th, breaking a tie with Jackson Northwest on the 5th person’s score – each team had 198, Harper Creek had 200, and Western rounded out the scoring with a 214.
Coldwater was led by Molly Smith with a 45, Hunter Jenkot shot a 46, Jayla Goodwin had a 48, Micki Slack and Claire Sheppard each had 56’s and Gabriel Boston rounded out Coldwater’s scoring with a 57.
The I – 8 Conference Championship will be held on Thursday, September 29 at the Bedford Valley Golf Course.
