COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A man who spent over two decades in the Michigan Department of Corrections for trying to stab a man to death in the mid 1990’s was ordered to go back to prison on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
64-year-old Vincent Beniquez was given a sentence of two to six years after he entered a guilty plea to a felony count of assault with a dangerous weapon which was filed following an incident last May.
In exchange for his plea, prosecutors agreed not to file charges of assault with intent to murder and felony firearm.
Beniquez was given credit for 160 days spent in the Branch County Jail.
Beniquez was on parole at the time of last May’s incident.
He was sentenced to serve 25 to 50 years in prison back in February of 1995 after entering a no contest plea to a charge of assault with intent to murder.
