THREE RIVERS, MI (WTVB) – Fast action by a store owner led to the arrest of two men over the weekend in Three Rivers after one of the suspects tried to cash a phony check for over $400.
Police say the man trying to cash the counterfeit check was locked into the Triple Creek Convenience store by the owner late Saturday morning as police raced to the scene.
Investigators say the check said it was from a Sturgis company but it looked suspicious and store workers could not verify its authenticity.
The man in the store and another man waiting in a car outside were arrested.
Police say they found more fraudulent checks in the car as well as cash, a large amount of suspected methamphetamine and two guns. One of the guns according to police was stolen.
The suspects from Ohio and Indiana were booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on multiple felony counts.
