COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Bethel Township man entered into a plea agreement with Branch County Prosecutors Monday in which he admited his guilt to a charge of third degree attempted criminal sexual conduct.
In exchange for the guilty plea, four counts of third degree CSC that were filed against 44-year-old David Green will be dismissed when he is sentenced October 31, 2016.
Green admitted on the stand Monday in Branch County Circuit Court that alleged sexual acts with a young teenage girl took place “ten or twelve times” in his home during 2007 and 2008.
The maximum sentence Green could get is five years. No other charges involving the alleged victim would be filed against Green as part of the plea agreement and he would have to register as a sex offender.
In a bizarre twist, prosecutors filed two counts of extortion against the alleged victims mother last year after they claimed she tried to extort $5,000 from Green and 69-year-old Gene Matthew Keith. In return she would not tell police about sexual assaults the men allegedly committed against her daughter. Investigators did not believe any money exchanged hands and prosecutors later dismissed the case without prejudice.
Green was scheduled to go on trial next Tuesday in Branch County Circuit Court.
