COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two downtown buildings which were constructed in 1860 but have been vacant for a number of years are about ready to be occupied again.
The Coldwater Historic District Commission approved a certificate of appropriateness for Linda Jankalski Wednesday night for improvements she wants to make to the former location of Seaman Office Supply and Current Office Solutions at 9 and 11 South Monroe Street.
Each building is listed as a historically contributing structures as outlined in the Coldwater Downtown Building Resource Study which was put together in 2006.
Community Services Director and Assistant City Manager Keith Baker said Jankalski plans to open her Precious Memories retail store a week from Saturday on September 24, 2016.
The building at 9 South Monroe is two stories while the neighboring building is three stories.
The approval covers the installation of exterior siding, commercial entry doors and replacement windows for the commercial structure.
The first floor commercial space has been altered with brick flower boxes and modern commercial entry doors and front windows. City staff felt the proposed replacement of the windows and doors with commercial grade replacements was appropriate. The window and door replacements are similar to those installed elsewhere within the district.
