COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The case of a Coldwater area man who is facing three charges after allegedly shooting a woman with pellets from an air rifle last month was bound over to Branch County Circuit Court on Tuesday.
49-year-old Richard Stolte waived his Branch County District Court preliminary exam after he was charged with Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder, Felony Firearm, and Domestic Violence third offense.
A Circuit Court pre-trial conference has been scheduled for December 5.
Stolte was charged by Branch County Prosecutors following a Michigan State Police investigation into an alleged incident on or about October 12, 2022.
Prosecutors say a woman suffered significant injuries after being shot with pellets twice during a domestic dispute. The woman was later taken to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo where doctors determined that her heart was pierced in multiple places which caused her lungs to fill up with blood.
Stolte denied the entire incident when he was interviewed by investigators and claimed he had no contact with the alleged victim on the date of the incident.
Bond was set at $250,000 during Stolte’s arraignment and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.
