PONTIAC, MI (WTVB) – The name of Branch County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Winter has been added to the Michigan Fallen Hero’s Memorial in Pontiac.
An annual ceremony was held on Sunday night.
There are over 800 names of Michigan’s fallen firefighters and law enforcement officers that are etched on ten granite tablets.
The names go all the way back to 1864.
They include Branch County Sheriff George Ralston who was shot and killed in 1917.
Winter died on May 31st at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne from injuries he suffered the previous day when he was thrown from his horse while providing security during the Quincy Memorial Day Parade.
