FREMONT, IN (WTVB) – Two Fremont, Indiana residents were injured Friday night in a motorcycle accident just south of the Michigan-Indiana line that police say was caused by a deer.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened at about 8:10pm on Vanguilder Road south of Baker Road when a deer ran out in front of a motorcycle driven by 44-year-old Michael D. McCavit.
McCavit struck the deer and laid the motorcycle down.
He and his passenger, 36-year-old Heather McCavit, were taken from the scene to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne by Steuben CountyE.M.S. for their injuries.
The Sheriff’s Department says neither of the McCavits wore a helmet at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s office.
Assisting the Sheriff’s office at the scene were Steuben County EMS, Fremont firefighters and Steuben County Communications.
