BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – After getting a number of letters from nearby property owners, the Bronson City Council approved a request on Monday night to change the intersection of South Douglas and Compton Streets into a four-way stop.
The intersection is currently a two-way stop with traffic on Compton Street having to stop.
City Manager Brandon Mersman says the two-way stop has created confusion and resulted in some near accidents. The safety of the intersection has been reviewed several times of the years.
Bronson Police Chief Stephen Johnson felt the best way to increase safety at this intersection for vehicles and pedestrians, especially youngsters going to and from Ryan School, was to make it a 4-way stop so that traffic in each direction has to stop.
He also pointed out intersections to the east and west of South Douglas and Compton are already full four way stops.
