BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – It looked like a game of musical chairs at the start of Monday night’s Bronson City Council meeting.
During their first meeting after the General Election, the City Council voted to have Matt Watkins serve as Mayor.
The 45-year-old Watkins was first elected to the Council in 2018. He also serves as the Varsity Baseball coach at Bronson High School.
Bill Earl was chosen as Vice Mayor. Former Mayor Larry McConn wished the best to his successor as Mayor.
The Council also approved a three year contract extension for City Manager Brandon Mersman.
The contract extension runs through May of 2025 and includes a seven percent salary increase.
The action came after the Council discussed Mersman’s evaluation and contract in a closed session. Mersman was appointed as Bronson’s City Manager in July of 2015.
In addition, City Clerk/Treasurer Karen Smith administered the oath of office to Watkins, Earl and Rick Johannes who were the candidates on the ballot last Tuesday for the three seats that were up for election this year.
