BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – The Athens Indians came within one game and one point of winning the M.H.S.A.A. Division Four girls volleyball state championship on Saturday before they were beaten by Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart three games to two at Kellogg Arena.
Athens won the first two games 25-14 and 25-13.
After Sacred Heart won the third game 25-23, Athens was ahead 25-24 and had championship point. But Sacred Heart won the next three points to win the game 27-25.
Sacred Heart then won the deciding fifth game 15-11 as they won the final six points.
Kylie Quist led the Athens attack with 20 kills, while Jocelyn Hall had 18, Piper Porter had 17 and Kamryn Parlin had 10. Alaina Brubaker finished the day with 56 assists and 19 digs. Parlin added 23 digs and nine total blocks. Hall had 24 digs, Piper had 18 and Quist had 14.
