QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – After months of discussion, the Quincy School Board of Education approved a land transfer agreement with the Village of Quincy on Monday night.
The transfer involves about four-and-a-half acres of land northeast of the Quincy High School baseball field as the Village is seeking to develop a parcel of property for a residential purpose.
The property is being sold by the school district for $1. The resolution approved by the school board on Monday says the property is no longer necessary for school district purposes and it would be in the best interests of the district to transfer the property to the Village.
As part of the agreement, the Village at its expense will build an extension of East Jefferson Avenue.
It will be extended to the east to wrap around the high school baseball field. The length of the roadway would be about 1,400 feet.
The paving of the roadway would be completed when the infrastructure for the project is installed.
The agreement also states that if the Village has not begun the development of the property for residential purposes within five years of the execution of the deed that transfers the property to the Village, the property would automatically revert to back to Quincy Community Schools.
The Quincy Village Council is scheduled to take action on the agreement during a special meeting on Tuesday evening.
