COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Press box or no press box, the Coldwater Cardinals welcome longtime rival Marshall to Cardinal Field tonight in what could be a critical high school football game in the race for the Interstate 8 championship.
It’s the home opener for the Cardinals after they won at Jackson last Friday night 33-22. Coldwater rushed for 437 yards in the win over the Vikings. Marshall is coming off a season-opening 28-7 loss to Benton Harbor.
Athens at Union City
It will likely be the last time the Indians and Chargers meet for the Little Brown Jug which has belonged to Union City for the past 15 years. The last victory in this rivalry for Athens took place in 2000. Both teams are coming off of opening night wins. The Indians defeated Bellevue 12-0 while the Chargers defeated White Pigeon 22-15.
Jonesville at Quincy
The Orioles look to go to 2-0 in the Big 8 opener for both teams. Quincy shut out Bronson last week 22-0 while Jonesville lost to Hillsdale 51-24.
Bronson at Bridgman
The Vikings will try to bounce back following their loss to Quincy last week. Bridgman lost to Mendon last week 32-14.
Elsewhere tonight in the Interstate 8, Jackson Northwest plays at Harper Creek and Pennfield will be at Parma Western.
In the Big 8, Reading travels to Springport and it will be Concord at Homer.

In junior varsity action Wednesday, Marshall beat Coldwater 19-7. Damon Beckhusen had a 39 yard touchdown run for the Cardinals, who fall to 0-2 on the season.
Quincy rolled past the Jonesville JV team 52-6. Jacob Gifford rushed for 139 yards for the Orioles.
