COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In girls volleyball Tuesday, Coldwater defeated Fremont, Indiana 3-0 in the Lady Cardinals first home match of the season. Coldwater won by scores of 25-8, 25-9, 25-15.
Tyler Scheid led the Cardinals in aces with eight on the night. She also had two blocks. Jasmine Wellet led in kills with five and digs with eight. Jamie Wellet led in assists with seven and added four kills as well. Malorie Rzepka had six digs and three kills. Olivia Foley added five assists and two aces. Drue Mullin had four aces and Darlene Horn had five digs.
Coldwater’s record is now 13-3-2.
The Coldwater J.V. team also defeated Fremont 25-15, 25-13 as they improved to 12-3-2. Mya Tom had six aces and six digs, Anna Tappenden had eight digs, five digs and six assists while Carlee Crabtree had four aces and six kills.
Coldwater’s Freshman volleyball team defeated Hillsdale 3-0 by scores of 25-14, 25-13, 25-21 to improve 4-7-3 overall. Jasmine Coppess had seven aces and three assists, Alexa Davenport had four aces and one kill, Taylor Wilber had three aces, two assists and one kill while Bailey Burkhardt had two kills and one block.
Union City defeats Colon and Climax-Scots
Union City got a pair of wins Tuesday night as they defeated Colon 2-0 (25-19, 25-20) and Climax-Scots 2-1 (23-25, 25-17, 15-11). The Chargers are now 5-6-1 overall.

Another team record was broken in the 100 Breaststroke by Jayda Kelly. Kelly finished second in both the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Breaststroke. Kory Ulrich (UL-rick) finished first in both the 200 and 500 Freestyle. The Relay team of Kelly, Erica Rogers, Madison Marsh and Ulrich won the 200 Freestyle Relay. Coldwater Girls swim again on Thursday at Eaton Rapids at 6pm.

Gull Lake 3, Coldwater 0
Coldwater suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday night, falling at Gull Lake 3-0. The Cardinals found themselves down 1-0 at the half after Gull Lake scored just two minutes into the game, Coldwater conceded the 2nd goal with 15 minutes to play in the secondhalf, then Gull Lake scored on a penalty kick with 52 seconds to play to seal the win.
Balal Nasser made six saves in goal. With the loss, Coldwater falls to 6-1 on the season. They are off until September 6 when they host Battle Creek Central.
Coldwater won the JV match over Gull Lake 6-0 as the Cardinals outshot the Blue Devils 14-3. Shaif Ahmed had two goals for the Cardinals. Dominick Kelly, Ahmed Salem, Erik Corona and Haroon Alattre also scored for Coldwater. Sophomore goal keeper Alex Schaale had 3 saves.
