(COLDWATER) – Coldwater Police are investigating a reported Saturday night robbery of the Sprint Store at 849 East Chicago.
According to a dispatch from Branch County Communications, police were looking for two men in a red Grand Am or Grand Prix and that they were armed with a nine millimeter handgun. They left the back of the store and drove off in an unknown direction of travel.
Police say nobody was injured during the incident which happened just before closing at about 7:00pm.
Coldwater Police said in a news release that one of the men pointed a gun at the victims as they were herded into a back office where they were held while the robbers gathered up cell phones and cash.
One Facebook posting indicated the employees were tied up by the robbers but that information has not been confirmed by police.
It was thought Monday morning that Union City Police had picked up the suspects. But after further investigation, two men they arrested for alcoholic violations were not involved in the Sprint Store robbery.
Coldwater Director of Public Safety Mark Bartell says a customer in the store praised the store manager for keeping everyone calm and for getting the robbers to leave quickly before anyone was hurt.
Anyone with information is asked to call Coldwater Police at (517) 278-4525.
