ADRIAN, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s boys cross country team finished first while the Quincy boys were 11th on Thursday in Adrian’s season-opening Bert Cebulski Invitational. Coldwater won the 12 team meet had 76 points followed by Adrian with 81 and Erie-Mason with 112.
The Cardinals took three of the first six places and four of the first twenty. Race winner Shuaib Aljabaly, Zack Murphy, Jordan Parkinson and Jacob Fair all got medals in leading Coldwater to their first team title ever at Adrian.
The top finisher for Quincy was Nathan Nohr who was 14th.
In the Girl’s competition, Kathy Potter medaled for Coldwater in 20th place. The Lady Cards did not field a full team and did not register in the team scoring. The Quincy girls finished ninth in the 11 team meet. Gabby Porter led the Orioles with a 14th place finish while Meri Michael was 26th.
The Bronson boys were third while Union City was 11th on Tuesday in the Three Rivers Big Hill Climb. Bronson’s Colin Ransbottom finished 12th while Blake Bucklin was 16th. Grant Gay was 27th for Union City.
The Union City girls were 10th. Bronson did not have enough runners for a team score. The Vikings Xochiti Garcia finished 12th. Marionna Bigelow was 47th for the Chargers.
—GIRLS VOLLEYBALL—
Coldwater rallied in the final game on Thursday night as they won at Holt three games to two. The game scores were 23-25, 25-18, 25-13, 21-25 and 16-14. Coldwater came back from 3-0 and 12-11 deficits in the final game as they improved to 10-1-1.
Jasmine Wellet led the team in kills with 18, led the team in aces with 3, and had 15 digs, Jamie Wellet led the team in assists with 20, led the team in digs with 27, and served at 100 percent, Olivia Foley had 19 assists, 8 digs and also served at 100 percent, Izzy Foley had 10 digs, Drue Mullin had 11 kills and 17 digs while Tyler Scheid led the team in blocks with five.
In the underclassman matches, Coldwater lost the J.V. match to Holt 18-25, 23-25 while the freshman defeated Holt 25-18, 25-8.
Union City lost a pair of matches as they were beaten by Olivet 22-25, 25-16, 15-13 and by Marshall 25-9 and 25-22. The Chargers are now 2-4-1.

Coldwater traveled to the Island Hills Golf Course in Centerville on Thursday to participate in a match play event with Three Rivers, Sturgis, and Harper Creek. Coldwater won both their matches to capture the Sauk Trail Cup, first defeating Harper Creek in the morning 4 ½ to ½ and coming back in the afternoon to defeat Sturgis 3-2. Jayla Goodwin secured the win over Sturgis with a 1 up victory over Courtney O’Brien of Sturgis.
