COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Local districts within the Branch Intermediate School District are looking to push the calendar ahead for the start of the school year. Superintendent Joe Lopez says that Coldwater, Quincy, and Bronson school officlas would like to have the BISD file for a three year waiver to start classes earlier than other Michigan districts.
If approved, the earliest it would go into effect is the 2017-2018 school year. The districts are currently required to start classes on the Tuesday after Labor Day.
Lopez Wednesday said paperwork was filed for the waiver last year, but it was processed too late to allow for the earlier start this year.
In other business at the BISD board meeting Wednesday, the board approved the hiring of Nate Johnson as the Special Education Planner and Monitor for the 2016-2017 school year.
