COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater boys varsity soccer team stayed undefeated the hard way on Tuesday night as they overcame a 4-2 second half deficit to defeat Kalamazoo Central 6-4. Coldwater’s Mana Ahmed had two first half goals, one assisted by Jon Brownell, but still found themselves down 3-2. A penalty kick for Kalamazoo Central with 32 minutes left in the game put the Maroon Giants up 4-2 before the Cardinals mounted their comeback.
Shuaib Aljabaly had a goal with 16:20 to play to cut the margin, then Jacob Knaack scored with 10 minutes to play, assisted by Brownell, to tie the score at 4-4. Mohamed Nagi scored the go ahead goal with 5:05 to play, assisted by Mana Ahmed. Ahmed then scored an unassisted goal with 30 seconds to play to seal the victory.
Balal Nasser made seven saves in goal, as Coldwater improves to 3-0 on the season. They will next play Haslett Saturday morning in the first round of the Eaton Rapids Division Two Soccer Tournament at the East Lansing Soccer Complex.
The Coldwater JV Boys Soccer squad generated 14 shots on goal as they defeated Kalamazoo Central 3-2. Mubarek Said, Dominick Kelly and Shaif Ahmed scored for Coldwater. Defensively, the Cardinals held the Maroon Giants to seven shots on goal. Goalkeeper Alex Schaale had three saves while Ahmed Salem recorded four saves.
—GIRLS VOLLEYBALL—
The Coldwater J.V. team went 3-0 in a quad meet at Bronson on Tuesday night. The Cardinals defeated Sturgis 25-22, 20-25, 15-7; Centreville 25-15, 25-21 and Bronson 25-18, 25-12. Emily Smoker had 19 assists, 16 kills, 17 digs and 13 aces, Carlee Crabtree had 11 kills and 11 digs, Jordan Clemens had 16 kills and 26 digs, Anna Tappenden had 18 assists, 14 kills and 20 digs and Hailey Steel had 10 aces.
With the three wins, the Cardinals J.V.’s are now 7-0-2. They will play at Holt on Thursday.
