COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Detroit man is being held on a $1 million bond in the Branch County Jail following his arrest on drug charges Wednesday afternoon in Kinderhook Township.
34-year-old Brandon Stephon-Kyle Smiley was stopped by the Michigan State Police on I-69 near the Kinderhook exit for not having a license plate. A temporary Indiana tag in the rear window was also expired.
Court documents indicate the trooper who made the stop became suspicious when the suspect appeared nervous and began sweating.
Eventually, the vehicle was searched. State Police say 22 grams of alleged cocaine and another six grams of alleged heroin were discovered behind the drivers side headlight.
Smiley was arraigned on Thursday in Branch County District Court on two counts of Delivery and Manufacturing Narcotics less than 50 grams and for being an habitual offender.
He is scheduled to appear for a probable cause hearing in District Court next Thursday.
