NORTH WEBSTER, IN (WTVB) – A major winter storm is expected to hit the area just in time for Christmas weekend which could foul up many holiday travel plans.
National Weather Service forecasters say clouds will increase on Wednesday in advance of a system that will evolve into a major winter storm for the region which will bring a variety of hazards.
Precipitation will likely start as a mix on Thursday into Thursday evening, before changing over to moderate to heavy snow Thursday night into Friday morning.
The combination of this snow with very strong wind gusts on Friday will lead to very dangerous travel conditions and the potential of whiteout conditions.
Forecasters caution there is still a good deal of uncertainty on the exact track of this storm which will subsequently affect the timing of the changeover to snow, snow amounts, and the extent of the impacts with this potential winter storm.
An item of higher confidence is an arctic air mass overspreading the area Friday into the weekend that will lead to dangerous wind chills.
Residents are being asked to stay updated on the latest forecast regarding this upcoming winter storm as confidence in significant travel impacts is increasing.
