COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 to accept a county broadband proposal from Frontier on Tuesday afternoon.
Commissioner Tom Mathew voted no because he was not satisfied with the information gathered so far and more time was needed. County Administrator Bud Norman said there were seven submissions to the RFP the county sent out as a public-private partnership was being sought.
The Commissioners conducted interviews with representatives from Frontier, Charter and ACP.net during this past Thursday’s work session. Ten questions were asked of each company. Commissioners were given a hand out, to allow them to rate each company on how they feel they answered each question.
Branch County has been looking at updating broadband service for over two years. Norman said during the Commissioners meeting on November 22 that it looks like grants will soon become available to help fund a broadband project but any potential partnership would be contingent on getting grant funds.
