BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson Police Department says the intersection of South Douglas Street and Compton Street is now a four-way stop.
Drivers in all directions must stop at the intersection. New stop signs went up on Wednesday.
The Bronson City Council approved the change in November after the city got a number of letters from nearby property owners.
The intersection was previously a two-way stop with traffic on Compton Street having to come to a halt.
City Manager Brandon Mersman says the two-way stop created confusion and resulted in some near accidents. The safety of the intersection has been reviewed several times.
Bronson Police Chief Stephen Johnson also felt the best way to increase safety at this intersection for vehicles and pedestrians, especially youngsters going to and from Ryan School, was to make it a 4-way stop so that traffic in each direction has to stop.
Intersections to the east and west of South Douglas and Compton were already full four way stops.
