COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As subzero wind chills and blowing snow continued into Christmas Eve, the National Weather Service extended the Winter Storm Warning for Branch County until 7:00 p.m. Saturday.
The warning, which also includes Hillsdale, Calhoun, LaGrange, and Steuben counties, was scheduled to expire Saturday at 7:00 a.m. It was originally extended to 1:00 p.m., then midmorning was pushed to 7:00 p.m.
The National Weather Service says plan on hazardous road conditions, especially on untreated roads and backroads. Some roads have been closed.
Areas of blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility and
will create drifts on north to south roads. Isolated power outages have been reported.
Dangerously cold wind chills between
20 below to 35 below zero will cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
They say t will remain dangerously cold and windy with areas of blowing snow through Saturday night.
