LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed an older adult who lives in Livingston County is the first human case of West Nile Virus to be reported in Michigan for 2016.
To date, 13 birds have tested positive for West Nile so far this season and there have been three positive mosquito pools detected in Oakland and Saginaw counties.
Infected birds and mosquitoes can provide an early warning of the virus in a community.
Officials with the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency once again are asking you to remove standing water around your home, apply insect repellent and repair of replace torn screens on doors and windows.
