COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There could be another hearing before the Coldwater Historic District Commission about the former Gillespie Funeral Home.
The board was short one member when it tied 3-3 in April on a motion to demolish the empty building so that current property holder Southern Michigan Bank and Trust could put in a park.
Assistant City Manager Keith Baker told the Commission on Wednesday that the administrative law judge for the Michigan State Housing Authority who is hearing the case felt the action was invalid because the Commission was not made up of seven members.
Baker says the city attorney has filed a legal brief in respone to the judges determination but the potential exists another hearing could happen within the next two months.
Meanwhile, the Commission approved a certificate of appropriateness for the renovation of the former Taylor’s Stationers building at 60 West Chicago.
Ten apartments would go into the building and another 48 apartments would be in a new five story multiple family residential apartment building. There would also be a parking deck in the Milnes Plaza public parking lot.
