COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Sheriff John Pollack thanked and honored Hal and Lillian Creal as well as the Branch County Community Foundation during Tuesday’s Branch County Commissioners meeting for a nearly $35,000 donation which was used to buy eight portable radios for Sheriffs deputies.
Pollack said they found out during a training exercise that his department could not communicate with other agencies since they were on a different radio system.
The radios cost over $4,300 apiece and there was no money available in the county budget so Pollack approached the Community Foundation which led to the Creals donation.
Hal Creal said he was a policeman for four years in Kalamazoo and he said to Pollack “I wouldn’t want your job”.
The Creals also made a donation three years ago which helped the Sheriff’s Department upgrade their tasers.
