Kyle Z. Smith, 64, of Athens, died on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo.
A gathering of family and friends will take place from 2-5:00 PM on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at The Bucket in Union City. A private interment will take place at West Girard Cemetery.
The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
Kyle was born on June 25, 1956 to Bruce and Mary (Clark) Smith in Pontiac, Michigan. He graduated from Waterford Kettering High School with the Class of 1974. He worked with his family from 1975-85 at their bar, The Bucket, in Union City. In 1985 Kyle purchased The Harvester bar in Climax and operated it until fire destroyed the business in 2017. He served as the Mayor of Climax for 10 years. On September 16, 1996, he married Athena Loosier in Las Vegas. She survives him.
In addition to his wife, Kyle is survived by his children, Mary Smith, Kelly Smith and Kennedy Smith, all of Athens, and Samantha Smith, Jamie (Sarah) Smith and Melissa (Dominic) Tormen all of Battle Creek; a granddaughter, Cassi Smith; a sister, Ellen Smith of Union City; a nephew, Tony (Maggie) Smith of Union City; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother. Kevin Smith.
