COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A former Quincy man was given a maximum sentence of 93 days on Monday in Branch County District Court after he assaulted his 95-year-old grandmother last March.
37-year-old Matthew Teeters entered a guilty plea to a reduced charge of domestic violence. The original charge of third degree vulnerable adult abuse was dismissed by prosecutors in exchange for the guilty plea.
District Court Judge Brent Weigle told Teeters “I’m looking at a guy who loves his grandmother and who cuffed her around.” The judge also called Teeters conduct reprehensible and scolded him when he was interrupted.
Before handing down the sentence, Weigle ran down the injuries the victim suffered as well as Teeters’ lengthy criminal record.
No probation was ordered since the judge felt it was not appropriate in this case. Teeters was given credit for 10 days already served and was ordered remanded to the custody of the Branch County Sheriff’s Department.
