Richard Eugene “Dick” Brown, 81, of Union City, passed away at home Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
A funeral service celebrating Dick’s life will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 12:00 Noon at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City. Interment with military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Union City.
Visitation will be held just before the funeral, from 10:00-12:00 Noon at Lighthouse Saturday, January 21, 2023.
Richard was born December 9, 1941 in Sturgis, Michigan to Eugene and Gladys (Swihart) Brown. He graduated from Union City High School in 1960 and attended Argubright Business College in Battle Creek. From 1962-1967 Dick served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, stationed out of San Diego aboard the frigate U.S.S. Reeves.
In his civilian life, Dick worked 28 years at Ralston-Purina in Battle Creek, retiring in 1996. He always had a smile, a joke and a story for every occasion. He enjoyed living in a small town where he knew everyone.
Dick was very patriotic and a loyal member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #196 in Union City. He also belonged to the Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club.
Survivors include Dick’s nieces and nephews, Mark (Sue) Michael of Union City, Sheri Smith of Fremont, IN, Brenda (Lonnie Patterson) Michael of Carleton and Peggy (Matt) Winger of Freeport; grand-niece and nephews, Curtis Michael, Caleb Michael, Connor Michael, Derek Winger, Delmes Smith, Andrew Smith and Brook Winger; great-great-neices, Addison Michael, Raegan Michael, Kennedy Michael and Ruby Michael; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth Michael (2014).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the family or to American Legion Post #196, P.O. Box 94, Union City, MI 49094.
