Melody Ann (Strauss) Sunday, 73, of Concord and formerly of Kalamazoo, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home in Jackson.
At her request, cremation has taken place and a memorial visitation for Melody Sunday will be held Friday, February 3, 2023, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Quincy.
Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Quincy at a later date.
She was born September 5, 1949, in Coldwater to Thomas and Rosalie Joan (Smith) Strauss.
Melody attended school in Quincy, Michigan. She moved to Concord in 1970 and lived there for 30+ years while raising her family.
Melody spent her life caring for others. She operated a daycare out of her home in Concord for several years. She was a trustee on the Concord Community School Board. She was a volunteer firefighter and first responder for the Concord-Pulaski Fire Department, and an EMT Specialist at Albion Area Ambulance Service. Later in life she attended Jackson Community College and earned her LPN Certificate. She worked in various doctors’ offices, hospitals, and nursing facilities in the Albion, Hillsdale, and Jackson areas.
Melody was passionate about all animals (domestic and wild) but she was particularly fond of birds and fish. She enjoyed clowning (she attended clown school and spent several years as “Daisy” in many parades and local events), crocheting/knitting, cooking, hunting morel mushrooms, spending winters in Florida with her sister Theresa, playing bingo and going to the casino. But most of all she loved her family.
She is survived by her children, Melissa (David) Goostrey, Michael (Tracy) Sunday, and Amber Wortman; sisters, Theresa Amidon, Shelby (Scott) Collins, Annette “Winkie” (Lee) Malakoff; sister-in-law Yvonne Strauss; grandchildren, Hannah Tamplin, Kaydenn, Logan, and Skylor Sunday, Cameron, Alexis, Bentley and Braxton Hankins; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Melody is preceded in death by her infant son Darl; parents; two sisters Holly Strauss and Deborah Newberry; a brother, Thomas “Buster” Strauss; and her significant other of 15+ years, Terry Thornsberry.
Melody will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
