MARSHALL TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Ford Motor Co. is expected to confirm what that has been speculated for several days: the construction of an electric vehicle battery plant will happen near Marshall.
Crain’s Detroit Business says Ford has scheduled a news conference for Monday afternoon near Detroit, with the focus of that news conference to be a battery plant created in cooperation with China-based battery maker CATL.
Reports earlier this week indicated that the automaker was in talks to put the proposed battery plant at the ‘Marshall Megasite’ in Calhoun County’s Marshall Township, near the interection of I-94 and I-69.
Ford and CATL, the world’s largest electric vehicle battery producer in the world, teamed up to search for a North American production facility in June 2022.
The proposed plant could end up in Marshall after Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin blocked a plan for the production plant in January, due to CATL’s apparent ties to the Chinese Communist Party.
If it happens, the plant would bring 2,500 jobs to the area.
