ATHENS, MI (WTVB) – Following a break for fall holidays and the coldest weather months, Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation will be offering another time-limited spring grief support group at Lighthouse of Athens which is located at 310 South Capital Avenue in Athens.
The spring group will meet from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on six successive Thursday evenings, beginning March 2, 2023, and running through April 6, 2023.
Social Worker Kelli Poortenga will facilitate the group. She will be assisted by Lighthouse chaplain, social worker and family life educator Kristy Smith. They look forward to providing a supportive setting where participants feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings surrounding coping with loss.
Lighthouse owner/manager and funeral director Tate Goodwin says, “Lighthouse is committed to helping guide people during their time of need. Kelli and Kristy genuinely care about the members of the grief groups they facilitate. Their concern and understanding put participants at ease, make participation safe and help group members develop a new normal.”
The support group sessions are open to anyone in the Lighthouse service area who has experienced the loss of a loved one, regardless of whether a client of Lighthouse. The loosely structured group format is a great way for those who attend to exchange support and build new connections as part of establishing new life patterns following a significant loss.
Group participants will learn about the grieving process and gain grief recovery tools through the information presented and interaction with other participants. The sessions are free. Refreshments are provided.
If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Lighthouse by calling (269)729-4100 or by emailing: tate@lighthousefuneral.com to reserve a spot.
