CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Some would say there are two seasons in Michigan, winter and construction. It’s time for the orange barrels to reappear.
The final year of the Michigan Department of Transportation three-year, $210 million investment to rebuild 25 miles of I-69 between Island Highway in Charlotte and I-94 in Calhoun County will start on Monday.
This years work includes rebuilding southbound I-69 from I-94 to north of Ainger Road; rebuilding the interchange ramps at N Drive, M-78, and Ainger Road; rebuilding the remainder of the I-69/I-94 interchange; and preventative maintenance work on various bridges.
Funding for this project is made possible by the Rebuilding Michigan program.
One lane of traffic will be open in each direction on I-69. There also will be ramp and bridge closures throughout the year. Details will be announced as they take place. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes during the construction work.
MDOT says the work is scheduled to be completed by November 15, 2023.
