COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch Intermediate School District Head Start Director Cindy Rowe told the district’s Board of Education Wednesday that they recently got a five year Head Start and Early Head Start grant.
That means the Branch I.S.D. will be serving 230 Head Start children through a series of center-based program options for the next five years.
She also got permission from the board on Wednesday to submit an application for over $69,000 in additional funding in order to extend days of service for 34 percent of enrolled Head Start children starting in 2017-2018.
Rowe said the funds would allow them to add 16 days to their calendar for 79 students in 17-18.
They intend to use the additional hours after Spring Break to help four year olds transition into kindergarten.
The money would roll into Head Start’s base grant. Rowe said they will find out in December if the application is approved.
